Jane Muir, who graduated from Miami Law in 2009 and is a partner at Gersten & Muir, will be sworn in as president of the Coral Gables Bar Association on October 6 during its 61st annual President's Ball.
Tomas A. Pila, JD '96, will be sworn in as Treasurer. "I have enjoyed being a part of this great organization for the past few years, and it is an honor to be selected for leadership," said Pila, who owns his own firm, Pila & Associates, and who served as president-elect last year. "The association has been doing great things in the community and I am looking forward to helping the board accomplish even more this year."
The Coral Gables Bar Association, founded in 1952, is an organization of attorneys who promote education, professionalism and charity. The 2012 President's Ball will have as its keynote speaker the documentary filmmaker Billy Corben, known for "Cocaine Cowboys"; "The U," which is about the University of Miami; and the forthcoming film "Broke," about professional athletes' financial difficulties.
At the conclusion of the event, the directors and officers will be sworn into office.
"I am grateful to have been elected to lead this organization, and it is the support of people like Tom, who have a commitment to excellence and to community service, that will make this a spectacular event," said Muir, who will be the 61st president of the association.
"We hope to see other UM alumni at the event," added Pila.
