2L Miami Law student Nykeah Cohen recently won the champion title of Best Closer at the Mock Madness 2011 Closing Argument Competition, hosted by the Nova Trial Association at the Shepard Broad Law Center at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida. Cohen beat out students from various law schools throughout Florida.

After a full day of presenting their best oral arguments, only 16 students advanced to the Elimination Rounds. During the next day's quarterfinal, semi-final, and final rounds, Cohen presented arguments for both the prosecution and defense, which was determined by a coin flip done moments before each round. Cohen emerged victorious after the final round against a 2L competitor from Nova Southeastern University.

"Being awarded the honor of Best Closer further motivates me to continue in my efforts to improve my craft by sharpening my oral advocacy skills and personal courtroom style," Cohen says. "Most importantly, it reassures me that I have the skill set to reach my ultimate goal of making a difference in the lives of others."
