Gerald Backman is a retired partner of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP., where he spent his entire career starting in 1961 when he served as the firm's first summer associate. Backman received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania in 1959 and his LL.B. from Harvard University Law School three years later. Backman is a recognized authority on federal securities laws. In addition to serving as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Miami School of Law, he has also taught courses at Fordham Law School in New York. Backman is co-author of Audit Committees: Regulation and Practice, along with Anne Marie Salan of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP. Backman teaches Introduction to the Deal Workshop, a practice skills course that introduces students to business and legal issues common to commercial transactions.
