Arlene Zalayet heads the Liberty Mutual Field Legal Operations organization that consists of over 68 legal offices in 36 states. She graduated from St. Johns University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts, graduated from the University of Miami School of Law in 1981 earning a Juris Doctor degree.
In 1982, Professor Zalayet was admitted into practice in New York and Florida as well as the Federal Court (SDNY & EDNY) and U.S. Supreme Court. She testified as an expert witness in the case of Pavia v. State Farm Ins. Co., which was unanimously affirmed favorably to the insurance and negligence defense bar by the Court of Appeals and is now viewed as the landmark decision and seminal case on bad faith in the State of New York.
As an author, columnist and editor, Professor Zalayet has written several books including Modern New York Discovery, Civil Trials in New York, and New York Examination Before Trial and Other Discovery Devices published by the West Group.
She has held leadership positions on numerous bar association committees, was the founding committee chair of American Bar Association TIPS Staff Counsel Committee and is a past president of the Nassau County Bar Association.
Professor Zalayet has been an adjunct Professor of Law at Hofstra and Touro Law Schools. She has also lectured extensively at American Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute, American Corporate Counsel and other professional associations.
At Miami Law she teaches a course in Preparing the Corporate Client for Litigation.
