Patrick Gudridge has served as vice dean of the University of Miami School of Law since 2009. While a student at the Harvard Law School he worked as principal research assistant for Professor Laurence Tribe in connection with initial drafting of the first edition of American Constitutional Law. Graduating in 1976, Gudridge clerked for Justice Mathew Tobriner of the California Supreme Court before joining the UM law faculty in 1977. He was promoted to professor in 1983 and served as associate dean from 1990 through 1994. In 1991 and 1992 Gudridge assisted Justice William Brennan in organizing and teaching the seminar taught at UM following his retirement from the United States Supreme Court. In 2002-03 Gudridge served as consultant to the chair of the Federal Trade Commission, involved inter alia in development and constitutional defense of the "Do Not Call" regime. He teaches United States constitutional law, along with a wide range of other courses, having served as visiting professor at the Georgetown, Michigan, and Penn law schools. His writing has appeared in the Harvard Law Review, the Yale Law Journal, and the University of Miami Law Review, among other widely read journals.
