Coffee Connectors
At the end of February, the Law Alumni Association in partnership with the CDO, debuted the "Coffee Connectors" program.

The unique aspect of this program is that it is NOT a traditional mentor program.

What this initiative will be instead is a connector initiative to infuse our students into various practices and geographic locations. Your involvement may be as simple as forwarding a resume to a colleague you know may be in the market to hire a young lawyer or it may be as simple as enjoying a cup of coffee for 20 minutes with a student to give them some tips and (perhaps more importantly) names of others within the profession who they may further contact. Read more...

All you have to do to be one of our "Coffee Connectors" is complete and submit the Alumni "Coffee Connector" Volunteer Form, which may be accessed here.

We appreciate your support and urge you to be part of this transformative initiative for our law school and professional community.

With sincere gratitude,
Jaret L. Davis
President, University of Miami Law Alumni Association

Health Rights Clinic Two Year Challenge Grant
Several months ago you received news from Miami Law describing a two year challenge grant awarded to the Health Rights Clinic from the Equal Justice Works-AmeriCorps, which funds two fellows who provide legal services to veterans. The Health Rights Clinic is the first Medical-Legal clinic in the country to offer our veterans a focused, coordinated care model targeting unmet legal, medical, psychiatric and social support needs.

I am excited to report the two current fellows are Miami Law graduates and for the first quarter of their employment have had resounding success in their representation of veterans. In just three months, the fellows have taken on 114 separate legal cases for 60 low-income and disabled veteran clients. The work being done by our Equal Justice Works Veteran Legal Fellows is critical to helping our veterans successfully assimilate back into society while simultaneously reducing health care costs to the American taxpayer.
