"My practice is predominately made up of investor-State arbitration, representing both investors and States. International litigation (in FL and NY state and federal courts) and  commercial arbitration make up part of my practice, as well.
Memorable moments at Miami Law was participating on the winning Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot Competition team.  The week-long competition culminated in a 2-hour final round before a panel of esteemed arbitrators in the Frankfurt am Main Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Memorable Professor was… Professor JoNel Newman who handed me a file in my first week at the Health and Elder Law Clinic and said I had a final brief in an asylum case due in a matter of weeks!  With the support and supervision of Professor Newman and Melissa Swain, we succeeded in obtaining asylum for our client, based on unprecedented grounds.  Working in the Clinic was the single most important series of experiences I had as a student, which provided me with pragmatic skills I continue to employ on a daily basis."

Current Position: Consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers with their advisory practice by advising banks on implementing banking regulations; New York, New York
"I realized I wanted to become an attorney when...I attended a summer program at Yale University that focused on debating, politics, and public speaking. This inspired me to become a lawyer.
Recently, my focus has been in CCAR and Dodd Frank at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
A memorable moment at Miami Law was as a member of the Frankfurt Investment Arbitration Moot Competition, which placed first place during the competition in Germany. This was an incredible accomplishment and learning experience.
Memorable Professors were Professors Verges and Eichhorn were incredibly memorable professors as they taught the students of the Investor Rights Clinic about being an attorney in both an academic and practical sense. Also, Professor Chase and Professor Salah did the same in their teachings of securities enforcement. This led to my pursuit of a career in securities and banking regulations.
I chose Miami Law because Miami Law has a strong program for international law and business law, which were both passions of mine. Miami was also a wonderful city to practice in because the city itself provides a sense of balance between the great weather and culture.
Advice I would give to graduating Law students is that networking is a very important part of both your time in law school and your time after. Make sure to make it a priority."
MachadoChristopher Machado, JD’14
Hometown: Miami, FL
Undergradudate School/Major: Florida International University/History
Current PositoinProbate lawyer at Trescott & Drucker, P.A.; Miami, Florida
"I realized I wanted to become an attorney when...I was an Art major at FIU. Funny enough, I had actually decided to take the LSAT after meeting my soon-to-be wife. I had always been an avid reader and thought law school would be an interesting adventure. It was not until I met her that I got the courage to go forward and actually pursue this. We get married in June 2016.
Currently, I handle every aspect of Probate law at a boutique law firm on Miracle Mile called Trescott & Drucker, P.A. Half of the firm handles wills and trusts, while the other, my side, handles Probate litigation and guardianship cases.
Memorable moments at Miami Law were the times I spent with my friends away from the rigors of studying. Particularly the time spent at the Rathskeller. When I think back to those hectic three years I always immediately think of the friends I made and the people I met rather than the things I learned.
Memorable Professors were Professor Sergio Campos. If you are lucky enough to have him as your Civ Pro teacher, enjoy. Seriously. I also really enjoyed Professor Ricardo Bascuas because not only did you learn the Rules of Evidence like the back of your hand. I highly recommend any class or club (Trial Team) that he is associated with. I really enjoy Professor Scott Rogers and his class on Mindfulness in the Law. It really is one of the things that makes Miami Law so unique. Finally, I absolutely loved Professor Jaime Vining's Intellectual Property classes. Her classes were the reason I still have an interest in IP and would love to incorporate it into my practice someday.
I chose Miami Law because  Miami is the city I planned on practicing in. Miami Law's alumni base is so extensive that the connections developed both in school and out while your practicing are practically countless and really help you land your first (or even second) job.
I’ve seen the Law evolve since I’ve first started practicing in the area of E-Discovery.  It is becoming more and more prominent in the legal field.  Having a really good understanding of how E-Discovery works and how to accurately, and efficiently retrieve documents from emails or a company's servers is key now that we have entered a continuously digitized age.  Looking further ahead, I think the rise of E-Sports (competitive gaming) and the legalization of marijuana present very interesting and novel opportunities in the areas of Sports Agency and Corporate law, respectively.
The best part of practicing in Miami is the food. You can find anything from Cuban to Vietnamese and it is more than likely incredibly delicious. On campus, the Rathskeller is the obvious choice.
The best part of having a law degree is the flexibility. After these next three years and the Bar Exam, you're done. That's it. You can be a lawyer that handles Wills and Trusts or you can represent the next Chris Bosh in contract negotiations.
If I wasn’t a Lawyer I’d be an artist, an animator, or a chef."
JordanTrinity Jordan, JD’15
Originally From: Aviano, Italy
Undergradudate School/Major: Texas Christian University and Evangel University/Government and Religious Studies
Current Position: Clerk to the Honorable Adalberto Jordan on the United States Court of Appeals; Miami, Florida
"I realized I wanted to become an attorney when...I was growing up in Italy.  We only had one English speaking TV station and once a week my parents would let me watch "Night Court."  I loved how the character Judge Harry Stone always seemed to care about doing the right thing and helping people out around him.  I just always knew that one day I wanted to go to law school and that same heart.
Prior to Law school I was a pastor at a nondenominational Christian Church in Utah.  I had developed training material for church and community leaders to help start local nonprofits that identified needs within the local populations and ways to address those needs.  I had written two books prior to attending law school.
Currently, I am a law clerk to the Honorable Adalberto Jordan on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
Memorable moments at Miami Law were Hope Day of Service, Equity Playhouse, the first year, Law school exams & the class: Elements.
Memorable Professors were Professor Mary Ann Franks helped me to understand another way at looking at different social/legal issues because she treated differing viewpoints with respect.  Professor Bascaus did an incredible job of teaching evidence.  Professor Copeland prepared me for my job today through my Civ. Pro class and Federal Courts class.  My writing professors were unbelievable, Professor Belfer and Professor Pelz.  Not to forget some of the top shelf adjunct professors I was fortunate enough to learn specialties of the law from; Professor Vining and Professor Carfagna.
I chose Miami Law because there were many reasons.  The Miami Scholars Program.  The opportunity to be a city like Miami with the opportunities it affords while going to the law school that really is connected into all of those opportunities.
Advice I would give to students before they start Law School is that Law school is not a backup plan, don't do it because you have nothing else planned.
Advice I would give to graduating Law School is that  If you work hard, treat others with respect, carry yourself with integrity - you will get a job.  Don't worry about not having something lined up right away.  There are a lot of opportunities out there that will not expose themselves until after you graduate and take the bar.  Law school is just one step.  You are about to complete it, but the next step you need to complete is the bar exam.  Don't celebrate completing law school until after you complete the bar exam.
The best part of practicing in Miami is the Weather.  I Love heading down to the keys and kayaking, snorkeling, and just being in the water.  I Love the Key Lime Pie that everyone tries to outdo each other with.
The best part of having a law degree is that everyone thinks you have all the answers.  The truth is, lawyers have no more answers than anyone else.  We just have been trained to know where to go find the answers.
If I wasn’t a Lawyer I’d be an actor. The theater has always held my heart."
