Joanne Koren and Alex Schimel of the Academic Achievement Program Present Lecture at Conference

Joanne Harvest Koren, Lecturer in Law and Director of Miami Law's Academic Achievement Program, and Alex Schimel, Lecturer-in-Law and Associate Director gave a talk on “Early Intervention for At-Risk Students” at the Association of American Law Schools Annual Meeting in New York on January 4. Attended by more than 150 law school professors, deans and administrators, their talk focused on “Definitional Issues in Academic Intervention

Joanne Koren and Alex Schimel of the Academic Achievement Program Present Lecture at Conference

Joanne Harvest Koren, Lecturer in Law and Director of Miami Law's Academic Achievement Program, and Alex Schimel, Academic Achievement Program Associate Director, presented a session "Let's Start Building Our Castles: Delivering Multidimensional Academic Support Programs by Effective Use of Student Facilitators and Technology" at the Association of Academic Support Educators (AASE) conference. Koren is a founding member of the organization and served on the 2012 Conference Planning Committee. The AASE is a new national professional organization for law school academic support educators, professors, administrators and deans. Two-hundred academic support professionals attended the three-day inaugural conference this summer.

Koren Presents at LSAC 2012 Workshop at University of Denver Sturm College of Law

Joanne Harvest Koren, director of the Academic Achievement Program, presented a session at the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC) 2012 Academic Assistance Training Workshop at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law titled "Training, Supervising and Managing Student Teaching Assistant Staff in a Law School Academic Support Program." This bi-annual conference brings together 200 law school academic support professionals, professors and deans for a three-day intensive workshop.

Alex Schimel Joins Academic Achievement Program

A 2009 graduate of Miami Law has joined the school's Academic Achievement Program as a full-time academic support advisor and adjunct professor. Alex Schimel, who gained renown while at Miami Law by helping other law students prepare for exams, will join the program's director, Joanne Harvest Koren, in designing and implementing programming to help students acclimate to law school and achieve academic success.

The School of One curriculum customizes the classroom to meet the intellectual needs of each student.

The first ever Dean's Fellow alumni reunion took place at the Robert and Judi Prokop Newman Alumni Center on Nov. 4. The well-attended cocktail reception was organized by Joanne Harvest Koren, director of the Academic Achievement Program, who launched the Dean's Fellow program in 1994 with 12 Fellows.
